Yargh (Frustrations of a non-republican conservative)
I really want this election to be over. I know, without a doubt, "my candidate" won't win. Being a conservative, both fiscally and socially, and, strangely, in favor of smaller government, has really been an awkward place to be, particularly since none of the leading candidates are conservative fiscally, and only one of them (McCain) is even close to be conservative socially.
Adding to the frustration is the fact that the Democrats control the House and Senate. It goes, almost unstated, that should McCain get the presidential nod, the Democrats will probably block everything he tries to put through in order to save our failing economy (I say this only because of the Democrat's pulled off the greatest cover scheme in the history of the world by blaming everything (up to and including bad weather) on Bush's administration. This includes the sub-prime mortgages that have f'scked us bad, in the face. See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3p1Wc2NFa3w for proof that Republicans were calling for MORE regulation (wait, Republicans wanted more regulations? Yes.) Not only that, but Dems decided it was merely a "political lynching" of the Freddie Mae CEO. Furthermore, they blocked the passage of the regulations. /rant).
All this considered, I'm almost ready to say, "All right already. Barack "The Messiah" "The One" Obama. You be president. You prove you can do this." And then watch him fail. This way, at least, people MIGHT say, "Ok. We had eight years of Bush. And four years of The One. And we've turned into a socialist nation. The rich people are getting poor, and the poor people are getting rich. It's like the same shit, different ass. What else is there?" And then everyone will realize third party is the way to go. Heck, I can even pray to the end of the party system (I stand by George Washington in this (http://www.earlyamerica.com/earlyamerica/milestones/farewell/text.html) and I quote, "However combinations or associations of the above description may now and then answer popular ends, they are likely, in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people, and to usurp for themselves the reins of government; destroying afterwards the very engines, which have lifted them to unjust dominion."). But a guy can't build up his hopes too much, can he?
I can't believe I'm up at 1:47am writing this nonsense.
